Week 6: Roofing and Exterior Sheathing
This week saw significant progress as we moved beyond framing and began enclosing the structure. The focus was on two key elements: roofing sheathing and exterior sheathing.
With the walls up, the crew began installing the roof sheathing. This layer of plywood or OSB panels creates a solid base for the roofing material. It's a critical step, providing structural support and protecting the interior from the elements. Seeing the roof sheathing in place gives a real sense of the home's final shape.
Simultaneously, we started applying exterior sheathing to the walls. This sheathing, also typically plywood or OSB, adds further structural integrity and provides a surface for the exterior cladding (like siding or brick) to be attached to. This step effectively "wraps" the house, offering increased protection from wind and weather. The combination of roof and exterior sheathing marks a turning point, moving us closer to a fully enclosed structure.
Looking ahead to next week, we'll be continuing with the framing process, focusing on the finer details like blocking, headers, and interior partition walls. These elements are essential for the structural integrity and final layout of the home. Stay tuned for next week's update!
